Together we defend the rights of education and research staff
The Lithuanian Education and Science Trade Union (Lietuvos švietimo ir mokslo profesinė sąjunga, LŠMPS) is the largest trade union of education staff in Lithuania.
We represent our members, defend their professional, labour, economic and social interests, and work to make sure that the voice of education staff is heard when the most important decisions are taken.

Who we are
LŠMPS brings together teachers, early childhood and pre-primary education teachers, university lecturers, vocational teachers and trainers, researchers, learning support specialists, librarians and other staff of education institutions.
The union represents the interests of its members in relations with employers, municipalities, state institutions and other decision-makers in education policy.
Our goal
To defend the professional, labour, economic and social interests of education and research staff and to work towards safer and fairer working conditions. Acting together, we can represent employees more strongly and achieve lasting change in the education system.

Our history
LŠMPS was founded on 9 May 2019, gradually bringing together the education trade unions of Lithuania.
LŠMPS is a member of the Lithuanian Trade Union Confederation (LPSK) and of the Lithuanian Federation of Education and Science Trade Unions.
How the organisation is structured
Members are organised into trade union organisations at their workplaces, which in turn form regional branches in cities and districts. This structure makes it possible to solve problems at workplace, municipal and national level.

A trade union organisation represents employees in their own education or research institution.

A regional branch represents members at municipal level.

LŠMPS represents the interests of education staff in state institutions and in collective bargaining.
